The course about “theory and processes for solar grade silicon production” was organized at NTNU 11th -12th October 2018 in Trondheim
The course attracted people from academia, research and industry and gave ample opportunities for discussions, networking and, in addition to a thorough introduction to an industrially very important field. Many of the lecturers and course organizers were drawn from the two research Centres FME SUSOLTECH and SFI Metal Production. The course covered the processes applied for the whole value chain for silicon solar cell production from raw materials to solar cells.
A total of 40 participants from ELKEM, Wacker, RIMA Industrial S/A, Helios Resource Ltd, UiO, SINTEF and NTNU attended the course, including 20 master students from NTNU. In addition to direct interactions with the participants from industry, it was a great occasion for the students to see the application of research results regarding solar silicon and their impact and potentially very shiny future.
